Some people are famous. A precious few are legends. And then there is Dolly Parton — a woman who is not only one of the best-selling and most celebrated artists in music history, but also a beacon of kindness, creativity, and unapologetic joy. Born into poverty in a one-room cabin in the Great Smoky Mountains, she rose to become the Queen of Country, a global superstar, a business mogul, a philanthropist, and — for so many of us — simply family.
This is my tribute to the girl with the big dreams, the big voice, and the bigger heart. This is the story of Dolly Parton.

Dolly Rebecca Parton was born on January 19, 1946, in Sevierville, Tennessee — the fourth of twelve children growing up in a small log cabin without electricity or running water. But even with so little, she had imagination in abundance. She once said:

She began singing in church as a child, making her first guitar from a homemade instrument. By age 10 she was appearing on local radio and television shows. The day after she graduated high school, she packed her bags and headed for Nashville — the city where dreams go to come true.
